Netflix has ordered an eccentric dark comedy featuring stop-frame animation to be produced by Nexus Studios in London.
The House comes from directors Niki Lindroth von Bahr, Emma De Swaef, Marc James Roels and Paloma Baeza. It centres on a house and the surreal tales of three generations of families who made it their home. The show is being produced by London- and LA-based animation studio Nexus, which is behind the Academy Award-nominated short This Way Up and the Emmy- and Annie-nominated Back to The Moon.
“The House is a collection of cinematic stories that are intelligent, witty, inquisitive, warm and yet packed with off-beat humour,” said Charlotte Bavasso, co-founder and producer at Nexus Studios. “Nexus Studios has a remarkable history of working with the best animators from all over the world. We’re thrilled to partner with Nexus and their incredible directors to bring The House to life,” added Mike Moon, head of adult animation for Netflix.
The news comes after Netflix partnered with UK animation firm Aardman on Robin Robin, a stop-motion animated holiday special set to launch towards the end of the year, and bolstered its executive ranks in EMEA.
