ZDF Enterprises has partnered with producers Rocket Road Pictures and SF Studios Productions to co-produce Grow, an eight-part drama commissioned by Denmark’s national broadcaster, TV2.
The commercial arm of ZDF will retain global distribution and format rights, outside of Scandinavia, and will be launching the new series to market at MIPCOM 2020.
A tale of self-discovery and morality, Grow evolves into a suspenseful thriller as a young stockbroker, dissatisfied with his ordinary, apathetic life, is captivated by the murky underworld of drug dealing as he seeks out his deceased father’s past. His hunger for power, leads him to set up a cartel with the ambition to become Denmark’s top drug lord. His two worlds collide as he faces his brother, a policeman on the anti-drugs unit, who is also trying to come to terms with who he really is.
Premiering this month on TV2 PLAY and TV2 ZULU, the drama (Danish title Alfa) stars real-life brothers, with Andreas Jessen as the stockbroker, Adam, and Sebastian Jessen playing the role of his brother Jakob.
Robert Franke, Vice President ZDFE.drama at ZDF Enterprises, said “Grow is an exceptional drama with many layers. It is suspenseful but also thought provoking and the theme of inner conflict, that runs throughout the series, will resonate with audiences all over the world.”
Written, directed and produced by the acclaimed Avaz brothers, Grow marks their first foray into television after producing critically acclaimed feature films through their production company Rocket Road Pictures. SF Studios, the leading film and TV studio in the Nordics are the distributors in Scandinavia for Grow, having previously distributed the Avaz brothers’ debut film While We Live.
