Leading UK-based distributor DCD Rights has acquired international distribution rights (excluding Australia) for the highly-anticipated new series of the hit drama Jack Irish, it was announced today by Nicky Davies Williams, CEO. This, the third and final Jack Irish series, entitled Jack Irish: Hell Bent has already been pre-sold to AMC Networks’ Streaming Service Acorn TV for North America by DCD Rights. Acorn TV will premiere the new season later this year.
An Easy Tiger Production for ABC Australia in association with Film Victoria, Jack Irish: Hell Bent (4 x 60’) stars Guy Pearce (A Christmas Carol, Iron Man 3, Mildred Pierce) in the eponymous role as the criminal lawyer turned troubleshooter. Other cast members include Marta Dusseldorp (Stateless, A Place to Call Home), Aaron Pedersen (Mystery Road), Roy Billing (The End) and Shane Jacobson (Guardians of the Tomb).
The first two series, Jack Irish: Blind Faith and Jack Irish: Last Rites, have been sold to more than 150 countries by DCD Rights, which has subsequently acquired the three Jack Irish 1 x 90’ feature titles - Jack Irish: Bad Debts; Jack Irish: Black Tide and Jack Irish: Dead Point. This significant deal means that the entire, highly-successful Jack Irish franchise is now available for global distribution in one portfolio.
Nicky Davies Williams comments, “The first two series of Jack Irish have been extremely well received by viewers around the world looking for an engaging, hard-hitting and character-driven drama. We are extremely pleased to have acquired the feature-length movies and delighted that this new, highly-charged third series has already been picked up by Acorn TV for North America. We look forward to announcing further Jack Irish sales in the coming months.”
Don Klees, SVP Programming for Acorn TV, said, “Guy Pearce’s portrayal of Peter Temple’s iconic character has been widely-acclaimed by North American media and beloved by our subscribers, so Acorn TV is thrilled to exclusively premiere its final season. Through our partnership with DCD Rights, Acorn TV continues to lead the way in bringing high quality productions from Australia to North American audiences.”
The third Jack Irish series sees Jack’s long-suppressed trauma rear its ugly head as he discovers there’s more to Isabel Irish’s seemingly random murder by his former client Wayne Milovich; namely, a criminal conspiracy involving his trusted friend, homicide detective Barry Tregear. When a cop is murdered in a drive-through, a chain reaction is set off, forcing Jack to search for the truth behind his wife’s murder.
Enlisting the help of his old flame, Linda Hillier, Jack digs back 25 years into a record-breaking drug raid dubbed Great White. He soon meets Barry’s mistress, Nina Persky, who finds herself under threat from Troy, a troubled young man hell-bent on murdering every cop connected to the raid. To find the truth, Jack must stop him before everyone involved winds up dead.
The explosive final series of Jack Irish comes full circle, delving into Jack’s past and bringing him face-to-face with an adversary more personal and destructive than any he’s ever known.
