Originally created and written by Emmy and BAFTA award-winner Abi Morgan (River, Suffragette, The Hour), and produced by the multi-award winning makers of Chernobyl, Sister, the series will be produced for free-to-air channel FOX TV by Turkish production company MF Yapim, part of the Medyapim family. Production will start this summer.
Originally broadcast in the UK on BBC One and co-produced with Sundance TV in the US, the fast-paced world of the divorce circuit provides the high-stakes backdrop to the story of three sisters, each navigating complex relationships at work and at home. The Split was recommissioned for a third series for BBC One this month.
Turkey is the second market to license the format after Korean broadcaster JTBC picked up the rights in 2020. The Turkish adaption of The Split follows on from the huge success of another BBC Studios licensed format, Doctor Foster, which was produced by Medyapim and aired on Kanal D in 2020.
Andre Renaud, Senior Vice President for Global Format sales at BBC Studios said: “Abi Morgan’s powerful writing and the universal themes of family, honesty, love and heartbreak are fully on display with The Split. I am truly delighted to know that this will be the next story to be adapted for the vibrant Turkish market and am pleased that we continue building on our working relationships with key industry creatives like MF Yapim to bring voice to these people in a unique and honest way.”
Asena Bulbuloglu, The General Manager of MF Yapim said: “We are very excited about adapting The Split for Turkey. It’s a story with universal appeal that we believe will find a place in the hearts of Turkish audience.”
