Canale 5 is achiving brilliant results with the drama series Storia di una famiglia per bene (tr. The Good Family) with an average share of 3.5 mln viewers and an audience share of 17.7%. The first three episodes (two episodes back-to-back) broadcast on November 3, 10 and 17 are confirming the growing trend especially in the commercial target group (15-49).
The series (8x50’ episodes) is directed by Stefano Reali and produced by 11 Marzo Film for RTI, with the contribution of the Puglia Region and Apulia Film Commission that contribute to the beautiful set location.
Set in Bari, between 1985 and 1992, it features two protagonists Maria and Michele who are from very different families, but who meet and fall in love. Maria grew up in a fishing family, under a father who bullied his wife and children, whilst Michele is the son of a feared smuggler and trafficker. The pair, not wanting to follow in their families' footsteps, flee Bari together. However, later in life they separate and return to their hometown, where once again their families will do everything to keep them apart.
Claudia Marra of Mediaset Distribution is confident that the series will travel abroad : “alongside the strong love story between the two main protagonists and the family dramas of a poor southern family, it also captures some events that really happened in the 1980s, from the Capaci’ bomb attack in Palermo when Judge Giovanni Falcone and his wife were killed to the fall of the Berlin Wall, managing to connect the fictional story with Italian and European history”.
