Astro, Malaysia’s leading content and entertainment company has acquired the rights to adapt BAFTA and British Screenwriters nominee Liar, a thriller series created by BAFTA and Golden Globe-nominated screenwriters Harry and Jack Williams, through the partnership of its film production arm, Astro Shaw, with renowned independent television, film and digital production and distribution company All3Media International.
Double Vision, the production company behind The Bridge, which was nominated at the ContentAsia Awards for Best TV Format Adaptation (Scripted) in Asia, played a key role in securing the rights to adapt Liar and will be helming the production of the series.
Produced by Two Brothers Pictures for ITV and Sundance TV in 2017, Liar is a thriller series that explores themes of sexual assault, consent, modern-day gender politics, family life as well as deceit. The bold series garnered a peak audience of 7 million, making it the biggest audience ITV has seen for a brand-new drama since 2014. Known for its outrageous twists and characterisations that keep audiences at the edge of their seats, Liar tells the story of two people whose initial attraction leads to far-reaching consequences when lies, deception and manipulation blur the truth.
The Malaysian adaptation of Liar is expected to air towards the end of the year and will premiere on Astro linear channels, On Demand and Astro GO.
