"My name is Francesco Baracca. I am a pilot in the Royal Army. Before becoming an aviator, I was in the Piedmont Cavalry. Aviation was still in its infancy, very few ventured into the skies... One day I witnessed one of those very first flights and it was a thunderbolt! To see that plane hovering in the sky, to see it enter and disappear in the clouds... I knew immediately that aviation would be the future and I wanted to be part of it. Then, on 24 May 1915, everything changed'.
