SCRIPTED PREMIERES MARCH 2023: This month is entirely dominated by returning scripted series in Italy
This month, Italian television has been poor on brand new fiction premieres, with just a few returning series coming back on its main channels.
While Mediaset networks did not introduce any new TV series in March, Rai’s flagship network Rai 1 has aired two returning seasons (Il Commissario Ricciardi 2 and Un passo dal Cielo 7) and a new fiction, Sei Donne – Il mistero di Leila.
The Italian noir Il Commissario Ricciardi returned with a second season on Monday, March 6th. The 4-episode instalment, produced by Rai Fiction and Clemart, continued the story of Luigi Alfredo Ricciardi, a police commissioner in 1930s Naples grappling with various investigations, which he is also able to solve thanks to the gift of “hearing” the last words the victims' ghosts thought or said. This season ended on Tuesday, March 21st reaching 3.753mln viewers and a 20.75% audience share on average.
Police drama Un passo dal cielo aired its seventh season on Thursday, March 30th. Produced by Rai Fiction and Lux Vide, this new 8-episode season continues to follow the story of the Nappi family, as Vincenzo’s sister Manuela returns to San Vito to investigate on the death of a dear friend of hers. The debut episode gathered 4.656viewers, with an audience share of 27.2%.
Thriller drama Sei Donne – Il mistero di Leila was launched on Rai 1 on Tuesday, February 28th. Produced by IBC Movie with Rai Fiction and Rai Com, the 6-episodes series talks about six women and a past full of secrets that links them to the mysterious disappearance of a girl, Leila, and her step-father. Although it debuted in February, the fiction has occupied the schedule of Rai 1 for the first half of the month, reaching 3.047mln viewers and a 16.06% audience share, on average.
Except for public broadcasting, this month also saw the return of a Sky Original TV series: in fact, supernatural crime-drama Christian returned with a second season on Sky Atlantic on Friday, March 24th. The 6-episode instalment, also available to stream on NOW and on demand on Sky Go, continues to revolve around Christian, who is now starting to finally accept his “holy” gift and build a new Kingdom for his people. The series is produced by Sky Studios and Lucky Red, in collaboration with Newen Connect.
