The limited series Dear Child initially burst onto the scene in 2023, following its launch week ending on September 9. It consistently ranked in the TV Top 10 in various countries for up to seven weeks. Its global appeal was undeniable, as it maintained a spot in the Global Top 10 (TV Non-English) for six consecutive weeks until October 15, 2023, delivering a total of 46 million views during this period.
A recent analysis by Slick Strategy, a German consulting company, highlighted a second wave on international success, as the series has seen a resurgence from June 24 to July 14, 2024, particularly in Latin America:
• From June 24-30, 2024, “Dear Child” re-entered the Global Top 10 (TV Non-English) at position 7 and it re-entered the TV Top 10 in Peru and Venezuela, showcasing its continued appeal in these markets.
• From July 1-7, 2024, the show climbed reached the 10th position in the Global Top 10 (TV Non-English) and reappeared in the local TV Top 10 in Latin American countries Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, and Venezuela, as well as Turkey.
• From July 8-14, 2024, the German limited series secured a spot in the Mexican TV Top 10, underscoring its strong foothold in one of Latin America's largest and most competitive TV markets.
Dear Child has demonstrated outstanding performance based on the TV Top 10 per country rankings. It achieved its strongest performance in Saudi Arabia, followed closely by Ukraine, where it remained in the Top 10 for an impressive 10 weeks – the longest duration for any country. Argentina ranked third, with Germany, the series' country of origin, coming in fourth among the 92 countries where the show reached the Top 10.
According to the "What We Watched the Second Half of 2023" report, the series emerged as the second most successful show during that period, amassing a total of 53 million views. Currently, the limited series holds the 10th position on Netflix’s Most Popular List for TV (Non-English), with 50.9 million views in the first 91 days.
Dear Child is based on Romy Hausmann's acclaimed novel of the same name. The German original was adeptly written and directed by Isabel Kleefeld and produced by Constantin Television.
