He is joined by longtime friend and director Giorgio John Squarcia, who had previously filmed a pivotal moment in Cremonini’s life two decades earlier in Argentina. Together, they travel across the U.S., exploring the musical heart of America—from Nashville to New Orleans and Memphis—retracing the footsteps of legends like Dylan, Cash, and Presley. Along the way, new songs begin to emerge.
The journey ends in Alaska, where the frozen wilderness and the wait for the aurora borealis become metaphors for artistic rebirth. On a frozen lake, 8,100 km from home, the title Alaska Baby is born.
Squarcia, who filmed the journey alone with a minimalist setup, describes the documentary as a story 25 years in the making—"an unexpected transformation of a road trip into a meditation on music, identity, and renewal”. What began as a retrospective on Cremonini’s 25-year career became the story of a new beginning: the creation of his next album.
Alaska Baby captures not only landscapes and memories, but the quiet, powerful moment when a new voice starts to take shape.
