MIPCOM CANNES and Paramount Global Content Distribution announced the world premiere of Watson, a new CBS Studios medical drama inspired by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes, set for 20 October 2024, the eve of the 40th International Co-Production and Entertainment Content Market’s opening in Cannes.
The screening will be held at 18:00 in the Grand Auditorium of the Palais des Festivals, attended by lead actor and executive producer Morris Chestnut and executive producer/showrunner Craig Sweeny, followed by a Q&A session open to all delegates. The series airs mid-season 2024-25 on CBS.
Watson follows Dr. John Watson (Chestnut) a year after Sherlock Holmes' death, as he heads a clinic for rare disorders while facing new challenges from Moriarty. The show combines medical drama with investigative elements, featuring a modern take on one of history’s greatest detectives.
The premiere episode is written by Sweeny, who will also executive produce alongside Chestnut, Sallie Patrick, Larry Teng, Shäron Moalem MD, PhD, Aaron Kaplan, and Brian Morewitz. Teng directed the first two episodes. CBS Studios produces the series, distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
Dan Cohen, Chief Content Licensing Officer at Paramount, expressed excitement for the premiere. Lucy Smith, Director of MIPCOM CANNES, highlighted the global interest in this new dramatic re-telling.
MIPCOM CANNES, attended by over 11,000 delegates from 100+ countries in 2023, will feature the conference program with world premieres, insights, and keynotes from industry leaders from 21-24 October 2024.
