Modi - Three Days on the Wings of Madness Marks Johnny Depp’s Triumphant Return to Directing
After its celebrated debut in the Grand Public section of the Rome Film Fest, Modi - Three Days on the Wings of Madness is poised for a nationwide release in Italian theaters on November 21, 2024. Directed by Johnny Depp, this film marks his long-awaited return to the director's chair, twenty-five years after his first feature, The Brave. Depp’s distinct vision brings to life the highs and lows of the iconic Italian painter Amedeo Modigliani, portrayed by Riccardo Scamarcio, with an impressive international cast including Luisa Ranieri, Antonia Desplat (The French Dispatch, Operation Finale), Bruno Gouery (Emily in Paris, The White Lotus), Ryan McParland (Kissing Candice, Halo), Stephen Graham (Gangs of New York, This is England), and the legendary Al Pacino.

Produced by Barry Navidi Productions, IN.2 Film, and ILBE S.p.A., Modi - Three Days on the Wings of Madness is distributed by Be Water Film, in collaboration with Maestro Distribution and Medusa Film. Depp’s return to directing showcases a profound understanding of artistic struggle and personal turmoil, brought to life through Scamarcio’s evocative portrayal and a powerful supporting cast.

Set against the backdrop of war-torn Paris in 1916, the film delves into a critical 72-hour period in the life of Modigliani, affectionately known as "Modi" to his inner circle. Driven to the edge, Modi contemplates abandoning his career and escaping Paris, but his plans are interrupted by fellow artists Maurice Utrillo (Bruno Gouery) and Chaim Soutine (Ryan McParland), and his muse, the captivating Beatrice Hastings (Antonia Desplat). Seeking guidance, Modi confides in his trusted friend and art dealer, Leopold Zborowski (Stephen Graham), whose support will be tested during Modi’s mental descent.

As night descends on the city, Modi's mind spirals into hallucinatory chaos, ultimately leading to an encounter with American art collector Maurice Gangnat, portrayed by Al Pacino. With Gangnat’s interest, Modi faces a transformative decision that could alter the course of his life forever.
