The fourth edition of NEM Zagreb 2024 (Hotel Esplanade, December 10-12, 2024) concluded after three inspiring days of discussions, workshops, and networking, solidifying its reputation as a hub for TV and film professionals in Central and Eastern Europe. Sanja Božić-Ljubičić who organized this event after the success of Nem Dubrovnik, provided a platform for creativity and collaboration, uniting industry leaders, creators, and decision-makers.
On day 1, after the grand opening and inspiring Pitches, the event kicked off with a warm welcome from Krešimir Partl, State Secretary, followed by panel discussions and pitch presentations by finalists in the Best Pre-Development Project Award and the Council of Europe Series Co-production Development Award.
Notable insights came from Larry Bass, CEO of ShinAwiL Productions, who praised the NEM Awards as a “passport to global recognition.” Industry leaders emphasized the power of casting and diversity, with Lee Hobbs of Warner Bros. Discovery highlighting the role of inclusive storytelling in global media.
The day ended with the Co-Production Gathering, offering attendees a relaxed setting to discuss new partnerships.
On day 2 there was time for all the NEM Awards and mor industry deep conversations about the state of the CEE regions. In the evening, day was a whirlwind of activity, culminating in the NEM Awards Ceremony, where standout projects were honored:

The Council of Europe Series Co-production Development Award went to Imperial Vampire Committee.
Extractors received the Best Finished TV Series in the CEE Award.
Panels covered pressing topics such as the role of public service media in democracy, strategies for attracting investors, and the emotional power of soundtracks, with composer John Altman sharing his experiences. The day ended with a festive Christmas Party by Mediavision.
The final day spotlighted knowledge and skill-building through workshops and masterclasses.
John Altman, a legendary composer, gave an inspiring session on collaboration in the media industry, reflecting on his work with icons like James Bond, Titanic, and Monty Python. He remarked, “Collaboration is the essence of music; it adapts and evolves with the people you work with.”
Larry Bass shared strategies for navigating 2025’s challenges, emphasizing the need for global thinking and partnerships: “Content is global, so you’ve got to think globally to compete.”
The day also featured a European Showrunner Think Tank, exploring the unique challenges of showrunning in CEE versus Western Europe, moderated by Daria Stilin, a double NEM Award winner.
