Rai Fiction 2025 Presents a Lineup of New Productions
The new year brings a wealth of exciting developments in the world of fiction, especially on Rai 1, where viewers can look forward to new original series and highly anticipated returns.

Starting off the year is Leopardi – The Poet of the Infinite, a two-part miniseries directed by Sergio Rubini. The series, dedicated to the life of the great Italian poet Giacomo Leopardi and starring Leonardo Maltese in the titular role, will air on January 7 and 8 during prime time.

Another major return is the eighth season of Un Passo dal Cielo, which shifts its picturesque setting from San Candido to San Vito and Cortina d’Ampezzo in the Dolomites. Premiering on January 9, this season features Giusy Buscemi as the lead, portraying the sister of a police inspector played by the talented Enrico Ianniello. Joining the cast are Marco Rossetti and new addition Raz Degan.

Also making a comeback is Mina Settembre 3, starting January 12. The series follows the social worker Mina, portrayed by Serena Rossi, as she navigates love and her challenging social life.

Among the fresh offerings, one standout is the highly anticipated international co-production The Count of Monte Cristo. This new adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’ classic novel boasts an exceptional cast, including Sam Claflin as Edmond Dantès and Jeremy Irons as Abbé Faria. Other notable cast members include Lino Guanciale, Gabriella Pession, Michele Riondino, and Poppy Corby-Tuech. Directed by Danish filmmaker Bille August and produced by Palomar in collaboration with Rai Fiction and several international partners, the four-part series will premiere on Rai 1 in 2025.

Another returning thriller is Blackout: Vite Sospese, starring Alessandro Preziosi and Marco Rossetti. Directed by Fabio Resinaro and Nicola Marzano, the second season will air over four evenings, beginning January 14.

January also sees two historical dramas hitting the small screen. La Farfalla Impazzita, featuring Elena Sofia Ricci, tells the story of a Jewish woman who escapes the raid on Rome’s ghetto on October 16, 1943, and becomes a key witness in the trial against Nazi officer Eric Priebke. Meanwhile, La Bambina con la Valigia delves into the Giuliano-Dalmatian exodus. Additionally, a biopic titled Champagne - Peppino di Capri celebrates the legendary Italian singer.

The lineup includes the eighth seasons of Che Dio Ci Aiuti, starring Francesca Chillemi, Imma Tataranni 4 starring Vanessa Scalera and Massimiliano Gallo on February 23, detective series Rocco Schiavone season 6 with Marco Giallini and the teen hit drama Mare Fuori season 5.

New series launched by Rai Fiction are:  Belcanto. Directed by Carmine Elia, this historical drama follows a mother and her two daughters in mid-19th-century Italy as they pursue their dreams of performing in the world’s most renowned opera houses. Another noteworthy premiere is Miss Fallaci, a Paramount original series that explores the early career of the iconic Italian journalist Oriana Fallaci, portrayed by Miriam Leone.

Rai will also air the fourth season of the acclaimed French series Morgane – Detective Geniale. Over on Rai 2, the second season of The Bad Guy, starring Luigi Lo Cascio, Claudia Pandolfi, and Stefano Accorsi.

In the second half of the season, viewers can anticipate additional captivating series:

Carosello (directed by Jacopo Bonvicini) recounts the legendary Rai show from the late 1950s to the 1970s through the lens of a young television professional couple, played by Giacomo Giorgio and Ludovica Martino.

Fuochi d’Artificio (directed by Susanna Nicchiarelli), based on Andrea Bouchard’s novel, is a poignant tale of friendship among a group of adolescents committed to the Resistance, driven by a sense of responsibility and hope for the future.
