La Biennale di Venezia / 82nd Venice International Film Festival Call Opens Today for the Book Adaptation Rights Market: A Gateway for Publishers and Literary Agents
On Tuesday, January 14th, the call officially opens for the tenth edition of the Book Adaptation Rights Market (BARM), inviting publishers and literary agents to participate. Organized by the Venice Production Bridge, this highly anticipated event will take place from August 29th to 31st, 2025, as part of the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, scheduled from August 27th to September 6th, 2025, within the prestigious La Biennale di Venezia.

At the close of the call on May 27th, 2025, a selection process will identify 30 international publishers and literary agencies to participate. These selected participants will gain access to a dedicated space where they can engage with producers attending the 82nd Venice International Film Festival. Additionally, participants of the VPB FOCUS 2025 program will join the event, enriching the network of industry professionals. The final list of selected participants will be announced in June.

What sets the BARM apart from similar global events is its approach: invited publishers and literary agents are encouraged to showcase their entire catalogues. This opportunity allows producers to explore a wide array of works for adaptation into screenplays, ranging from novels and dramas to children’s books, short stories, graphic novels, essays, and biographies.

Producers registered at the festival with an Industry Gold Accreditation can book 30-minute meetings with the selected publishers and literary agencies through the Venice Production Bridge’s dedicated platform. These pre-scheduled meetings will facilitate valuable collaborations, fostering long-term relationships and paving the way for adaptation agreements.

With the Book Adaptation Rights Market, the Venice Production Bridge continues its mission to support and promote the development of international and European audio-visual projects. By connecting literary content with the film industry, BARM contributes significantly to the creative transformation of literature into compelling screen stories.

By early July 2025, producers will receive a comprehensive brochure detailing the participating publishers, literary agencies, and the titles they represent. This resource will assist in selecting preferred meeting partners. The Venice Production Bridge will organize meetings based on participants’ availability, providing each attendee with a personalized schedule prior to the event.
