ITV Studios Nordics (ITVSN) has acquired the format rights to The League of Extraordinary…, an obstacle course competition and social experiment hybrid, for Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Norway.
The deal was announced by Phil Gurin’s LA-based distribution company, TGC Global Entertainment, which showcased the format to international buyers at last year’s Mipcom.
Designed as a large-scale challenge, The League of Extraordinary… brings together teams of strangers and immerses them in iconic national locations, where they face physically and mentally demanding tasks tailored to their surroundings.
The format has already proven successful under the title Canada’s Ultimate Challenge, a 7×60’ series that became a hit on CBC. It was co-produced by Insight Productions and The Gurin Company. Additionally, the format has been optioned in Germany by Leonine Studios’ Madame Zheng Production.
Anna Rydin, Managing Director of ITV Studios Sweden, who spearheaded the deal for ITVSN, highlighted the show's unique appeal:“the concept of turning an entire country into an obstacle course delivers breathtaking, unexpected moments. The authenticity of both the locations and the contestants, who give their all to win, creates high-stakes drama that truly resonates.”
Cecilia Ingebrigtsen, TGC Global Entertainment’s sales and acquisitions agent for Europe and the Nordics, added:“large-scale live entertainment remains one of the most resilient genres in global television. The League of Extraordinary… isn’t just an adventure game show—it’s an immersive experience that pushes contestants to their limits.”
