On the occasion of International Women's Day, Sky Arte presents a remarkable documentary that sheds light on the bold femininity of five extraordinary women of our time. Written and directed by Yvonne Sciò, the docu-film Womeness is co-produced by Magic Moments Films and Luce Cinecittà. Premiering exclusively on Sky Arte on Saturday, March 8 at 9:15 PM, it will also be available for streaming on NOW and on-demand.

The film brings together the voices and stories of five trailblazing women from different backgrounds and cultures, each of whom has carved out a distinct place in the world. Featuring Italian writer Dacia Maraini, civil rights activist and politician Emma Bonino, Iranian composer and singer in exile Sussan Deyhim, verbo-visual artist Tomaso Binga, and Japanese painter and sculptor Setsuko Klossowska de Rola, Womeness explores the resilience, creativity, and determination that define their unique journeys.

Maraini, Bonino, and Binga reflect on their experiences during the historic wave of Italian feminism, offering personal insights into the struggles, victories, and ongoing challenges faced by women. Through their words, the documentary captures the essence of a movement that reshaped not only their lives but also the broader landscape of women's rights in Italy and beyond.

On the other side of the world, the documentary follows the lives of Setsuko Klossowska de Rola and Sussan Deyhim. Setsuko, at a young age, defied societal norms by following the celebrated painter Balthus to Italy, challenging the conventions of her time despite their 35-year age difference. Meanwhile, Sussan Deyhim uses her music and artistry to shed light on the struggles of Iranian women, drawing parallels to fellow artists such as Shirin Neshat and the renowned poet Forough Farrokhzad. Through her powerful voice, she continues to fight for women’s rights, highlighting the harsh realities many still endure in Iran and other parts of the world.
