Format

CJ ENM announced at 2022 BCWW that the survival game show The Genius Game is having a local adaptation in the Netherlands. Produced by Tin Can, 8 episodes of the show have been ordered by NTR on NPO3. Locally named ‘The Genius', the show will premiere on October 3rd, and will air every Monday night at 21:15. 10 participants will compete to win the prize.

The Genius Game is a survival game show format created by CJ ENM, that tests players’ intelligence and social savvy. The players are chosen based on their social IQ, charisma, charm and intelligence to participate in a unique battle of intelligence and manipulation. Players compete a Main Match and the Death Match, elimination games, to challenge their analytical reasoning, attention to detail, memory, and loyalty. Forming secret alliances to increase their chance of survival, players are forced to strategize who to trust and who to betray to become the Genius.

Diane Min, head of format sales at CJ ENM, said, “We are so delighted to see the local version of ‘The Genius Game’ in the Netherlands. The Korean version of the show has become the channel’s mega-hit, and created massive fandom for both show and the channel. I assure it will do the same for NPO. I can’t wait to see it myself.”

The Genius Game first aired in South Korea in 2013, airing 4 seasons so far through CJ ENM’s affiliate channel tvN. The format has been created by producer Jung Jong-yeon of The Society Game and The Great Escape series.
