Télé-Québec, the esteemed French-Canadian broadcaster, is gearing up to launch a captivating 4 x 30’ adaptation titled L’Épreuve des Mots in prime time later this month. Collaborating as the local producer is Sphere Media Productions, a distinguished entity based in Montreal.
Originally conceived by Shine TV for Channel 4 in the UK, The Write Offs takes a diverse group of adults facing literacy challenges on a journey to master basic reading and writing skills essential for everyday life. Each participant confronts tasks that compel them to venture beyond their comfort zones, culminating in a heartwarming and dramatic performance for their loved ones.
The French-Canadian iteration will be hosted by Patricia Paquin, who brings a personal touch to the show as the parent of a 13-year-old coping with learning disorders. The cast comprises five contributors, all grappling with primary school literacy, embarking on a transformative 16-week course. Following its success on Channel 4, The Write Offs has already been adapted in Australia with two seasons on SBS, as well as in Denmark on DR and Germany on ZDF.
