Amazon has greenlit a celebrity-focused spin-off of the hit American quiz show Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? for Prime Video.
The streaming giant has commissioned 20 episodes of the format with NFL star Travis Kelce set to take the hosting reins. Kelce's profile has soared, particularly since his relationship with Taylor Swift made headlines in recent months.
Produced by MGM Alternative, a division of Amazon MGM Studios, the series will have a global premiere on Prime Video. In this iteration, contestants will lean on a panel of celebrities from various spheres – including entertainment and sports – to tackle 11 questions drawn from elementary school subjects, aiming for a hefty $100,000 prize.
The original US version of the show, co-created by Poznick and John Steven, debuted on Fox in 2007, pulling in a record-breaking 27 million viewers, according to Amazon. After three seasons on prime time, the show transitioned to first-run syndication from 2009 to 2011. It saw a revival on Fox in 2015 and another reboot on Nickelodeon in 2019.
The format has seen adaptations in 55 countries, resulting in over 3,000 episodes globally and spawning a range of merchandise, including board games, clothing, and books.
