Kansai Television Co. Ltd, (Kansai TV) established in 1958 in Osaka, and boasting a history of nearly 70 years, has launched an archive licensing website for overseas clients.

TV archive footage has previously been used exclusively by domestic TV stations to use in part in their own news or sport programs. However, in recent years, such footage has been attracting global attention as “valuable visual assets that convey the history and culture of Japan.”

Kansai TV provides footage of beautiful scenery around Japan collected through our news and travel programs. In particular, Kansai TV has substantial exclusive footage of the Kansai region, which are receiving an increasing number of inquiries from overseas.

There is also a service whereby, on request by e-mail, an archivist from Kansai TV will research the footage based on the client’s requests and propose sample videos. The footage can be used for a variety of purposes, including broadcasting, streaming, and films.

The clients can view and license from approximately 15,000 valuable video samples owned by Kansai TV, including footage of the 1970 Osaka World Expo, the World Heritage site Mozu-Furuichi Kofun Group, and Himeji Castle.
From 2014 onward, footage not only in 2K but also shot in 4K is available.
