Realscreen, Everywoman Studios, and A+E Networks announce Charlotte Lindsay Marron and Susan McClelland as the winners of this year’s Propelle Content Accelerator for their groundbreaking investigative series, How to Kill Someone in the 21st Century. This eight-episode documentary explores real-life cases that expose how the internet has created new opportunities for both predators and victims.
Launched in 2020, Propelle Content Accelerator is dedicated to championing emerging women creators by providing project development support and pitch mentorship, fostering greater diversity in non-fiction storytelling.
Each year, Realscreen, Everywoman Studios, and A+E Networks collaborate to select standout creators, offering them guidance from top executives in the non-fiction and unscripted entertainment industry. This year’s winning project benefited from mentorship by Unscripted Development Executive Molly Micallef, whose expertise helped Charlotte and Susan refine their compelling investigative vision. The initiative culminates in a private pitch session with A+E executives at the Realscreen Summit, where the winner receives a $25,000 development deal.
"Charlotte and Susan’s project stood out for its unique journalistic approach to internet-age crimes, as well as their exclusive access and sensitive handling of victims’ stories," said Abby Greensfelder, CEO of Everywoman Studios. "We are thrilled that A+E Networks, with its track record of producing impactful crime series, will be developing this project. Propelle is about fostering opportunities for women in content creation, and we are proud to support this initiative."
In addition to the Propelle Content Accelerator winner, A+E Studios has awarded Propelle participant Anna Wasylenki a paper development deal for a new creative format.
"We were incredibly impressed by the creativity and depth of this year’s pitches," said Steve Ascher, EVP, Head of Development, A+E Factual Studios. "While only one winner is selected for Propelle, we’re excited to announce a separate development deal with Anna, a testament to the outstanding talent in this year’s cohort."
"Propelle embodies our commitment to empowering women in non-fiction storytelling," added Mary Maddever, EVP of Realscreen and NATPE Executive Content Director. "Through the Summit experience, Realscreen provides unique market access and mentorship, fostering a strong community of current and future women leaders in our industry."
