The Turk will premiere in exclusive first-run broadcast on Canale 5 in prime time. The period drama has already been listed by IMDb—the world’s most popular film and TV database—among the most anticipated titles of 2025.
At the heart of the story is a janissary who, wounded and on the run from execution, finds refuge in the village of Moena. In this small town in the Val di Fassa, at the foot of the Dolomites, he is saved by a woman named Gloria and inspires the villagers to fight for their rights.
Can Yaman, in his first leading role in an English-language series, plays Hasan Balaban, an elite officer in the Ottoman Empire during the Battle of Vienna in 1683. “When I read the script, I was deeply moved,” Yaman told Variety. “This project aligned perfectly with my goals because it’s completely international—even though the set was physically very demanding.”
Written by Kerem Deren and Çişil Hazal Tenim and directed by Uluç Bayraktar, Il Turco stars Greta Ferro as Gloria, who becomes entangled in a fiery tale of love, passion, and desire with Hasan.
