MOMPRACEM and PICOMEDIA (Italy), THALIE IMAGES (France), and BETA FILM (Germany) have signed an agreement to develop an anthology series for TV, telling the story of women from the 19th century who played a central role in European and Italian history.
The first project will have at its center Virginia Oldoiini, the ambitious and reckless Contessa di Castiglione, an Italian patriot and seductive spy sent to Paris to the court of Napoleon III.
“Beginning with the Congress of Vienna, women took center stage in European politics. I have always considered the 19th century as a pivotal period of European history and I am convinced that Mompracem, Picomedia and Thalie Images will bring on screen a fascinating period drama with a fresh approach. Showing us this world through the eyes of the women who, as protagonists and across salons, theatres and battle fields, participated to the unfolding of events, will deliver both originality to the story and appeal for the international market,” declares Jan Mojto, CEO Beta Film.
