All3Media International has announced a raft of sales for the compelling Australian set thriller The Tourist, following its ratings winning, critically acclaimed launch in the UK, Australia and US. Praised internationally, the series has received glowing reviews - described by The New York Times as ‘gripping and full of surprises’, The Guardian as ‘explosively entertaining’ and the Sydney Morning Herald as ‘a beautiful, thrilling mystery’. The first episode launched to 4.6 million viewers* on BBC One, making it the best-performing original scripted show of the 2021 holiday period. Created by Emmy and Golden Globe-winning producer Two Brothers Pictures, the six-part series has been acquired across New Zealand, Canada, Europe and Asia, as All3Media International concludes a range of deals.
Jamie Dornan stars as the ‘The Man’, an enigmatic character, who after an epic car chase in the Australian outback wakes in hospital, hurt, but somehow alive and with no idea of who he is. Forced on a surprising, brutal, and often funny journey of self-discovery, he must unlock the secrets of his identity and stay one step ahead of the people trying to kill him. The impressive cast joining Jamie Dornan includes Danielle Macdonald (Dumplin’, Unbelievable), Shalom Brune-Franklin (Line of Duty, Roadkill), Damon Herriman (Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood), Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (The Missing, The Widow) and Alex Dimitriades (Total Control, The Cry).
The critically acclaimed thriller is produced by Two Brothers Pictures and commissioned by BBC One in association with Stan, the Australian co-commissioning partner, with HBO MAX confirmed as the US broadcaster and ZDF as the German broadcaster.
In Europe the character-driven, mystery thriller has sold to NPO (The Netherlands), VRT (Belgium), RTE (Ireland), COSMOTE (Greece), France Télévisions (France 3, the National channel). France Télévisions Outre Mer -1ere has acquired the series in a pan territory deal covering French-speaking countries and HBO Max has acquired the series in a pan territory deal covering Nordics, CEE, Iberia and Middle Eastern multinational DBS provider OSN has acquired the series.
TVNZ has acquired the series in New Zealand, BBC Studios has taken the six-part thriller in a pan territory deal covering Asia for BBC First, BBC’s premium SVOD service. South Korean VOD Platform, Series On by Naver Webtoon has acquired the series.”
Prime Video has acquired the series in Canadaand digital deals with iTunes and Google Ireland have been done in the UK.
These deals follow a previously announced presale with Pumpkin Film in China.
